I wanted to give you a raw, honest update on what’s happening behind the scenes.
As many of you know, since surviving multi-organ failure, severe fluid retention (losing 14kg of water in hospital), and Stage 2 Acute Kidney Injury (AKI 2) last October, my body has been in a massive fight to recover. Managing Stage 4 heart failure with a 20% ejection fraction means every ounce of my energy is precious.
Right now, I am facing a major battle just to get my life-saving medications delivered safely. My building on Kennedy Way has a secure communal door but absolutely no buzzer or intercom system. Because of my severe cardiac exhaustion, I physically cannot walk down the stairs to let delivery drivers in.
Today, I took the fight straight to the top. I have officially emailed Andy Hopkins, the Town Clerk and Chair of the new £20-million Immingham & Habrough Neighbourhood Board, demanding accountability and an urgent, safe solution so I can get my medication and food deliveries without risking a severe cardiac event.
You all know me from my 13 years in Immingham—from my days selling the Big Issue on the pitch to building this digital community. I’ve survived blindness, cataract surgery complications, assaults, and organ failure. I am not going to let a broken local system quietly push me aside.
The email is in their inbox. The paper trail is secure. Now, I have to let my heart rest. Thank you all for always having my back and being part of this journey.
Stay strong,
Raymond Duggan
